Jack Grealish and Omar Marmouche score as Manchester City ease past Leicester

Jack Grealish impressed as Leicester continued their path towards relegation with a 2-0 defeat at Manchester City on Wednesday.

The England international scored his first Premier League goal in 16 months and Omar Marmouche also found the net as the champions beat the Foxes at the Etihad Stadium.

It was a seventh successive defeat for Ruud van Nistelrooy's side without scoring and the result looked certain from the moment Grealish opened the scoring just two minutes from time.

Marmos doubled the lead before the half-hour mark and City enjoyed a comfortable rest of the game to move back up to fourth in the Champions League table.

It was also a night when City fans made their voices heard as hundreds responded to calls to boycott the opening nine minutes of the match in protest at ticketing issues.

Those not yet in their seats missed the moment when Grealish led his team onto the pitch, taking the ball from Savinho after Jeremy Doku intercepted it.

Pep Guardiola was also in the stands as the City manager was serving a ban for stepping onto the touchline.

The Spaniard has appeared to have little faith in Grealish this season but his decision to hand him his first league start since last December has quickly paid off.

Any threat Leicester might have created quickly disappeared.

The home side were not in the best shape, but they did not need to be. They were also not missing the injured Erling Haaland, creating many dangerous moments.

The second goal came in the 29th minute when Fox goalkeeper Mads Hermansen failed to make his usual pass after Ruben Dias had passed. The ball rolled straight to Marmus, who fired at goal and hit the crossbar.

City could have scored before the break as Savinho fired over the bar and Hermansen was forced to parry while Marmouche blocked another.

Jamie Vardy was actually a witness to the events as the Leicester captain was substituted at half-time.

Grealish's penalty appeal was turned down early in the second half as Leicester continued to fight hard, while Savinho was also denied one after being deemed to have been obstructed by Luke Thomas.

The visitors continued to defend, but City, realising that the job had been done successfully, were in no hurry to create new chances.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening was the appearance of Oscar Bobb, who took to the field for the first time since breaking his leg in August.

An evening that began with City fans arriving late ended with many Leicester fans leaving early as another defeat was confirmed, leaving the team 12 points off safety.
