Lando Norris beat Oscar Piastri to an impressive one-two for McLaren in first practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Just five days after the event in Belgium, Norris took the lead with the fastest time on medium and soft tyres in the first session in Budapest.

However, championship leader Piastri was just 0.019 seconds behind his McLaren team-mate, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc two-tenths of a second behind.

Oscar Piastri believes the drama at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, when Lando Norris overtook him and was forced to give up the position, highlighted McLaren's team spirit.

Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle noted: “The first stage was Lando's advantage, whereas on Friday at Spa, when both cars were on track, it was Oscar's advantage.”

“Oskar's best time was on a set of used soft tyres, so both cars are showing good pace. When I looked at Lando's fastest lap, I noticed that his car was on rails. It was like he was going around the last corner like a Scalectrix model.”

Racing Bulls' Isak Hajjar continued his outstanding performance to finish fourth ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who suffered braking issues after locking up heavily twice in first practice to finish 0.682 seconds behind.
