With the match ending, Dublin's title chances, trailing Galway by a point at full-time, looked to be gone until Hannah Tyrell came on.
Dublin had one last chance to take the game into extra time and Tyrell found the ball and she did not disappoint, taking a pressing shot to save Dublin.
The ladies in blue showed their quality and experience in extra time to win 3-14 to 2-14 and will face Meath in the All-Ireland final.
Recalling the free kick that sent the game into extra time, Tyrell said: “I was hitting them really well in the warm-up, but in the game I didn't have many free-kick chances.”
“As soon as I got the free program, I knew I was going to do it. I knew I had the ability, I was just doing my normal program, it wasn't anything new for me, so I wasn't nervous at all.”
Last July, it was Galway who ended Dublin's chances of defending the Irish title by winning it in 2023.
Coming into this season, the Dublin striker said his main target was to reach the League of Ireland final and admitted disappointment in the team over the way last season ended.
“Last year was extremely disappointing. The thing that disappointed us most was our performance.
“We knew we had the talent and the ability; it was just a matter of putting it all together and finding the right elements.
Our coaches did just that. They have a great team of coaches and people working behind the scenes and they put together a strong team. We believed we could get to the All-Ireland final but we knew it wasn't going to happen.
“It takes a lot of work and results, and fortunately we have already done enough.”
The final against Meath will end not only an amazing career in GAA but also in football and rugby.
The 34-year-old is not only an Irish champion, but has also won the Six Nations and Irish Cup.
While her sporting adventures may be coming to an end, the Dublin striker is looking forward to what life will bring her off the pitch.
“I wasn't really planning on coming back this year, but then I was persuaded to give it another go. There were a number of reasons why I wanted to do it.
“I am very happy with how my career has turned out, it would be great to finish it on a high level. Of course, nothing is guaranteed in sport, so I am fully focused on this final and then I can enjoy everything that comes after.
“I joke with my wife, I'm still in the process, I probably have a few more years left, but I'm confident in my decision. I've been involved in top-level sports for a long time.
“I recently started playing American flag football as a way to play in my spare time, so I'm looking forward to playing other types of football and spending time with my family.”
