Newcastle have completed the signing of Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
The 27-year-old signed for St Mary's from Arsenal last August for an initial fee of £18million and has shown good qualities in a difficult season for the Saints, who were relegated from the top flight.
Ramsdale has secured a return to the Premier League by signing a deal with Newcastle for the 2025-26 season, with Southampton receiving significant compensation and his wages fully covered as part of the loan.
The Magpies, who lost Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford to Manchester City, also have an option to buy as part of the deal, PA reports.
“It's great to be here,” Ramsdale said. “I've always enjoyed coming here and I've seen how passionate and loud the fans can be.
“I've always enjoyed playing here at St James' Park. I haven't always had the best results, but the support from the fans makes it special.”
Ramsdale has made 183 Premier League appearances since making his top-flight debut in 2019 under Magpies manager Eddie Howe at Bournemouth.
“It was a great pleasure to work with the manager and his coaching staff again,” the England international added.
“They have already had a significant impact on my career and the manager helped turn me from an ordinary person into a professional footballer at Bournemouth.”
“He really showed me the ropes and so the manager and his coaching staff were a big factor in my decision to come here.”
Newcastle manager Howe said: “Aaron is an outstanding goalkeeper who will add even more quality and international experience to our squad.
“Having worked with him before, I know what he can offer on and off the pitch, so we are looking forward to having him in our team.”
