Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Geraskevych, who was not allowed to compete at the 2026 Olympic Games wearing a “memory helmet”, spoke from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada and called on deputies to strip Olympic champion Serhiy Bubka of the title of Hero of Ukraine.

“We have several representatives from Ukraine who are in the IOC – Mr. Bubka still wears the title of Hero of Ukraine. I am ashamed that he still wears this title – he should not wear it,” said Vladyslav Geraskevych , who placed a “helmet of memory” on the podium. “A person systematically destroys Ukraine, trades with the occupiers, allows Russian flags in the organizations he heads. A person is really playing along with Russia, and when he wears the title of Hero of Ukraine, which is often awarded posthumously, it is unacceptable. We must also fight this. Therefore, I urge you to help Mr. Bubka be deprived of this award by imposing sanctions on him.”

Let us recall that Vladyslav Geraskevych, who spoke out against the war in Ukraine on the track in Beijing 2022, refused to start at the Olympic Games in Milan without a helmet with the image of Ukrainian athletes killed by Russians, and was disqualified by the IOC.

As is known, after the scandal at the 2026 Games, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the 27-year-old skeleton athlete the Order of Freedom, and domestic businessmen decided to support the national hero Geraskevych financially. In particular, monobank awarded the athlete a prize of 1 million hryvnias, and the chairman of the supervisory board of the Kharkiv football club Metalist 1925 Volodymyr Nosov gave Vladyslav the same amount in cryptocurrency. Later, the platforms Kyivstar TV, 1+1 Ukraine and OBRIO joined the action, giving the skeleton athlete 500 thousand hryvnias each, and the president of FC Shakhtar Rinat Akhmetov – 10 million. The athlete has already promised to spend the money on the needs of Ukraine.
