Friday Briefing: Andre Onana back in headlines as Man Utd hold off Lyon

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, who has been under fire, was back in the spotlight after Lyon scored in stoppage time to level the scores at 2-2 in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

Tottenham drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt, leaving the outcome of the match uncertain ahead of their return to Germany.

Rangers goalkeeper Liam Kelly saved a penalty as his side drew with 10 men Athletic Bilbao at Ibrox as Chelsea continued their Conference League campaign.

Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana was unable to prevent Ryan Cherki's late equaliser to give Lyon their first goal in a crucial 2-2 Europa League quarter-final.

The verbal spat added spice to a match that has come to symbolise the Red Devils' disappointing season, with Nemanja Matic reacting sharply to Onana's suggestion that the Premier League side were “much stronger” than the French club.

The former Lyon midfielder responded by calling Onana “one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United history” and the Cameroonian made no move to stop the talk when he conceded a first-half free-kick from Thiago Almada.

United looked to be on course for victory at Old Trafford when Leni Joro headed home in first-half injury time and substitute Joshua Zirkzee converted with two minutes remaining.

However, there was more drama towards the end of the game as the Cherkes responded quickly after Onana saved a superb strike from Georges Mikautadze in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time, sparking wild celebrations at the Groupama stadium.
