Former England captain Owen Farrell secures Saracens comeback

Owen Farrell has returned to Saracens after playing for French club Racing 92.

The former England captain ended his 16-year spell with Gallagher's Premier League side at the end of last season.

However, midfielder Farrell has decided to leave Racing 92 and return to Saracens after a disappointing season with the Top 14 side that was marred by injuries.

In an interview on the club's official website, he said: “Saracens is my home and the opportunity to return here is incredibly inspiring.

“Looking at the current season, it is clear to me that the club has huge potential and I look forward to returning to the squad in the 2025/2026 season.”

The 33-year-old former club captain has signed a two-year deal at the StoneX Stadium to rejoin the side with whom he won three European Cups and six Premier League titles.

Farrell made his debut for Saracens in 2008, just 11 days after his 17th birthday, and went on to make 256 appearances before heading to France.

He made 112 appearances for England and played six Test matches for the British and Irish Lions, although he was not included in the squad coached by his father Andy for the summer tour of Australia.

Farrell has not played in rugby tests since the 2023 World Cup, initially taking time off to look after his mental health, but his move overseas has ruled him out of selection.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall hopes his experience will be a major factor in what he believes will be an exciting future for the club.

McCall said: “Wain has Saracens DNA in his DNA. His competitive spirit runs through the fabric of this club and we are delighted he has decided to return home.”

“He returns to a young group full of potential, players eager to learn, play and succeed. We are confident he will enjoy being part of where this team and this club are heading.”
