Famous football coach who led three European national teams dies (photo)

The famous Norwegian coach, former coach of the Danish, Norwegian and Icelandic national football teams, Åge Hareide, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in July, has died at the age of 72, VG reports.

“Dad fell asleep at home today, surrounded by his family. He played his last game. We will be infinitely grateful for all the love we received during his illness,” said coach Bendik's son.

During his playing career, defender Åge Hareide played for Molde, Manchester City (the second Norwegian to ever play in English football) and Norwich. He played 50 times for Norway and scored 5 goals.

After hanging up his boots, the specialist coached Molde, Helsingborg, Brondby, Rosenborg and other clubs. He won championship titles in three countries – in Sweden with Helsingborg in 1999 and Malmö in 2014, in Denmark with Brondby in 2002 and in his native Norway with Rosenborg in 2003. Under the leadership of the Norwegian, the Danish national team qualified for the 2018 World Cup.

Ukrainian fans remember Hareide for the Euro 2024 qualifying play-off match between Ukraine and Iceland (2:1) in March last year, as well as for the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup matches, when his Helsingborg knocked out Karpaty Lviv from the European Cup.

Previously, “FACTS” reported that a famous Norwegian coach, who survived the death of his wife, the suicide of his son, and the amputation of both legs, had died.
