
Famous American boxer with Mexican roots Ruben Castillo, who fought for the world title four times, died at the age of 69, reports Boxing Scene. According to unofficial information, the athlete was killed by cancer. Earlier, his former rival Wladimir Klitschko, who became a preacher, passed away.

“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of my dear friend and champion Ruben Castillo,” WBC President Mauricio Suleiman wrote on social media. “He is now in the arms of God. May his wife Cindy, family and friends find comfort in the support of so many who loved Ruben.”

Castillo began his professional career at the age of 17 and went on a 43-fight winning streak until his first loss in January 1980, when he lost to Alexis Arguello for the WBC light featherweight title. He faced such legends as Julio Cesar Chavez and Salvador Sanchez.

During his professional career from 1975 to 1997, the fighter from Texas fought 79 fights, in which he won 67 victories (35 of them by knockout), with 10 losses and two draws.
After retiring from the ring, Castillo, who starred in the 1988 film “Fists of Steel,” worked as a television commentator.
The famous boxer had six children (including twins), but his daughter Misty died on her 37th birthday.
