Eddie Hearn hopes Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury can still meet in the ring

Promoter Eddie Hearn still hopes the fight between British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury can take place.

Talk of a possible meeting between the two former world champions has been going on for several years, but so far nothing concrete has come of it.

Tyson Fury, 36, announced his retirement after losing a world title rematch to Oleksandr Usyk last December, but rumours of a possible comeback have been rife.

Joshua, 35, has not entered the ring since suffering a loss to fellow Briton Daniel Dubois in September.

Hearn, who is Joshua's promoter, told the BBC: “The next step for AJ is going to be a really big one. I hope it's Tyson Fury – we'll see what the boxing gods decide.”

“It's the kind of conflict that probably arose from a personal conversation between two people — a text message or a call. It's like, 'Hey, are you interested in this?' That's it. And then, suddenly, it's over.”

Fury's promoter Bob Arum has expressed his opinion that he does not believe his fighter will return to the ring.

Hearn noted that Fury and Arum “never had the closest relationship.”

“Tyson looks in great physical condition,” Hearn added. “It would be very easy for him to start a 10-week training camp.”
