Camogie Association decides to allow players to wear shorts

Camogie players will be allowed to wear shorts during matches after the proposal was approved by Camogie Association delegates at a Special Congress held in Croke Park on Thursday evening.

According to The Irish Times, delegates backed a motion offering players the option to choose between shorts and skorts during games.

The proposal passed with 98 percent in favor and 2 percent against, and the new rule will go into effect at midnight.

The special congress was held in a closed format, with only voting delegates having access to the event. Voting was conducted by secret ballot, and a minimum of two-thirds of the votes were required to approve a resolution.

The issue has sparked intense debate in recent weeks after a survey by the Gaelic Football Players' Association (GPA) found 83 per cent of respondents would prefer to wear shorts or thought players should have the choice.

Matters came to a head when senior teams from Dublin and Kilkenny staged a protest by wearing shorts during the warm-up ahead of the Leinster semi-final on May 3.

Clubs and county teams across the country joined the protest and the issue received considerable press coverage, prompting the Camogie Association to hold a Special Congress on 8 May to vote on a rule change.
