
Former Serbian tennis player Tetiana Jecmenica, who was ranked in the top 100 in the world, died in a terrible accident near Belgrade at the age of 47, reports kurir.rs. Previously, the multiple European champion from Serbia died three weeks after giving birth.

The tragedy occurred the day before at around nine o'clock in the evening. According to the publication, Tetyana, who was driving a jeep with her husband Darko Yevtych, director of the handball club “Vojvodina”, missed a turn and started reversing. At that moment, a truck crashed into the athlete's car.
Firefighters managed to pull Darko Yevtych out of the battered jeep. He was taken to the hospital with serious chest injuries and put into an induced coma, intensive care doctors are fighting for his life (Darko has already undergone surgery). Unfortunately, the former tennis player died on the spot.

Tetiana Ječmenica was born on July 4, 1978 in Novi Sad. During her tennis career, she won 6 ITF tournaments in singles and 3 in doubles. Tetiana participated in all four Grand Slam tournaments, and her best result was reaching the second round of Roland Garros and the US Open. In the WTA rankings, the athlete, who played for the Yugoslav national team in the Federation Cup, was ranked 72nd in singles and 84th in doubles.

After completing her career, Tetiana Echmenica worked as a coach, was the captain of the Serbian national team, and owned the Echmenica tennis school in Novi Sad.

The tennis player, who has been married since 2013, is survived by her 18-year-old son Alex.
