Arne Slot keeps Luis Diaz out of Milan friendlies amid ongoing speculation

Liverpool manager Arne Slot left Luis Diaz out of the squad for their 4-2 friendly win over AC Milan in Hong Kong amid ongoing speculation over his future.

Bayern have reportedly reopened talks with the Premier League champions after their initial €67.5m offer was rejected last week.

Liverpool have said they have no intention of selling the forward, who is also being sought by Barcelona, while the Bundesliga champions' offer has fallen well short of their own €100m valuation for the internationally-ranked striker.

Diaz turns 29 in January and has two more years left on his current contract, but has not received any offers for a new one.

“As for Lucho (Diaz), there are a lot of rumors around him right now and I can't go into detail,” Slot said.

“He trains well with us, but we have decided not to let him out on the field for now.

“I usually communicate with most of my players. I can't say more.”

Asked if Diaz wants to leave the club, Slot added: “That's not the person to ask, that's me.”

Striker Darwin Nunez, whose status does not appear to be linked to Anfield, and midfielder Wataru Endo missed the match with minor fitness issues.

The club's record signing Florian Wirtz made his first start in the false nine role, while latest signing Ugo Ekitiike remained on the sidelines having only joined on Thursday, having completed his £79million deal on Wednesday.

The Slot fielded two different starting line-ups in each half, with midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and left-back Kostas Tsimikas forced to take over at centre-back after Joe Gomez returned home for treatment on an Achilles tendon injury.
