Anze Postecoglou will continue to quell the panic surrounding his role and keep Tottenham focused on the “incredible opportunity” of lifting the Europa League trophy.
Spurs head to Liverpool on Sunday to spoil the party at Anfield, but the biggest game of the season is on Thursday.
Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt will visit north London for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final, but Postecoglou admitted last month that there were “growing rumours” he could leave even if he wins the tournament.
A European win would give Tottenham their first trophy in 17 years and Postecoglou is determined not to be distracted from his job.
“We finished fifth last season, but that's not a good story. The best version is that my time at the club was a failure and continues to be one. I just think the hysteria surrounding the current situation is a pre-planned outcome. Hopefully we can resist it,” Postecoglou said.
“There's always a story that comes up after I leave clubs about how I almost got sacked. Even in my first job at South Melbourne, over 30 years ago, there were famous rumours about a board meeting being cancelled where I was going to be sacked.
“That's what people tell me and I didn't pay attention to it. Maybe it was in Yokohama or at Celtic, I don't know.
“If you ask any Tottenham fan what's more important to them now: who's going to be the manager next year or the chance of winning the title this year, they'll all say, 'Look, just make sure we give ourselves a chance to make history.'
“Nothing else matters. Everything will work out on its own. The worst thing you can do is focus on what may or may not happen and miss this incredible opportunity that is in front of us. We are in the final four of the European tournament.
“I can assure you that from my point of view, I have nothing but the desire that we are absolutely ready by Thursday. We have a huge task ahead of us.
“To prepare for Thursday, we have to go into the Liverpool game on Sunday with a clear understanding of how we need to play to be ready for Thursday.”
Postecoglou has been rotating his line-up before and after the European fixtures but is expected to provide game time to key players at Anfield with Destiny Udogie, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke all likely to be recalled.
Liverpool need just one point to secure the Premier League title and the Spurs boss knows what awaits him.
“The fact that they have a big prize if they succeed means that we will be facing a very motivated opponent and a very active audience,” Postecoglou said.
“If we win it will mean we have played very well and that will be great and give us momentum going into the biggest game of the season on Thursday.”
