Three killed in Russian drone attack on Ukrainian city of Zaporozhye

Russia carried out a drone attack on the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, killing three people and injuring 14, despite a limited ceasefire, local authorities said.

Police said 12 drones were used in the attack in Zaporizhia, and regional governor Ivan Fedorov added that the attack on Friday evening resulted in fires in residential buildings, cars and public buildings.

Ukraine and Russia broadly agreed to a limited cease-fire on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with the countries' leaders, although it was unclear which targets would be excluded from attacks.

The three sides appear to have very different ideas about what the agreement includes. The White House has said that “energy and infrastructure” will be part of the deal, while the Kremlin says the agreement only covers “energy infrastructure.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that he would also like to ensure the protection of railways and ports.

Those killed in Zaporozhye were three members of one family. The bodies of the daughter and father were pulled from the rubble, while doctors tried unsuccessfully to save the mother for more than 10 hours, Mr. Fedorov said.

The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched a total of 179 drones and decoys in the latest wave of attacks on Saturday night. It said 100 were intercepted and another 63 were lost, likely due to electronic jamming.

Authorities in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions also reported fires caused by falling debris from intercepted drones.
