An artist involved in films and TV shows including Star Wars: The Mandalorian is raising funds for a colleague who recently lost his sight while fighting in the war in Ukraine.
Andriy Kozyrenko, a 3D artist from Dnipro, eastern Ukraine, was injured in December when a drone exploded near his trench, causing a serious eye injury.
Mr Kozyrenko, 40, who is currently undergoing treatment in western Ukraine, lost his right eye, which was replaced with a prosthesis.
The retina in his left eye was damaged, although the optic nerve remained intact, and there is hope that his vision may be restored in the future through possible medical advances.
Jama Jurabaev, a London-based concept artist and art director who has worked with Mr Kozyrenko for many years, is raising funds to help him adapt, recover and find new ways to express himself creatively.
“This is one of the most terrible misfortunes that can happen to an artist,” Mr Jurabaev told the PA news agency.
“Losing an arm is not so bad, but for an artist the worst thing is losing your sight.
“For artists, this is especially painful because they don’t just look at the world, they feel it.
“Not only has he lost the ability to see, but perhaps even more painfully for him is that he is losing the ability to perceive the world around him.”
