Springsteen steps up political criticism of Trump in digital EP

Bruce Springsteen has no intention of backing down or giving in—and neither does President Donald Trump, for that matter.

On Wednesday, the rock icon released a digital EP comprising four live recordings made in Manchester last week, as well as two of his addresses to the crowd in which he denounced the “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous Trump administration.”

Springsteen opened his third Manchester concert on Tuesday night with No Surrender.

A satirical video posted Wednesday on Trump's social media page shows the Republican president taking a swing on a golf course and his “ball” hitting Springsteen in the back as he stumbles onto the stage.

Springsteen, who has long opposed Trump, launched the latest spat in the culture war last week in England when he opened his European tour.

His fellow countryman Mr Trump (both own property in New Jersey) responded by calling Springsteen “a dried-up rocker's prune.”

Both artists have enlisted other rock stars to their cause. Trump supporter Kid Rock appeared twice on Fox News last week, arguing that fellow Michigander Bob Seger was “out-performing” Springsteen.

“Bruce Springsteen is another big-money liberal desperate to maintain his reputation in the eyes of Hollywood and the elite,” Kid Rock said.

Springsteen “plays the role of a working-class guy,” but his political views are “completely outdated,” he said.

On the popular Fox show The Five, former White House press secretary Dana Perino noted that she always thought Springsteen was overrated, and Greg Gutfeld denounced him, drawing an obscene insult.

Neil Young has supported Springsteen, and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder paid tribute to him during his performance in Pittsburgh over the weekend.

Springsteen raised an important issue, and in response, “all we heard was personal attacks and threats that no one else should even try to use their microphones or their voices in public or they'll be shut down,” Vedder noted.

“Insults are beneath us,” Vedder added before Pearl Jam performed “Young Rockin' In The Free World.”

For Springsteen, No Surrender replaces Land Of Hope And Dreams on his tour list
