Republican Representative Doug LaMalfa faced strong criticism during an in-person town hall in Chico, California, on Monday morning, as attendees expressed their frustration over his vote for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the Epstein files, and President Donald Trump’s tariffs negatively impacting farmers in California.
"No fascism in America!" shouted one man while LaMalfa attempted to recast the events of January 6, stating he was "in the room" during the insurrection at the Capitol. "You need to be impeached!" the man exclaimed.
"Put that finger down. That's really mature," LaMalfa remarked as another man seemingly gestured rudely at him.
"Bull—-!" the man continued to shout, criticizing President Donald Trump’s pardons for those involved in the January 6 events.

The situation did not improve from that point.
Another woman commented on LaMalfa’s endorsement of the "Bull—- bill," further challenging the congressman regarding his backing of the president’s immigration policies.
"Newsom is doing a great job of releasing people as it stands," LaMalfa stated, redirecting the blame toward California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Numerous attendees voiced their displeasure with LaMalfa, offering profane remarks without asking any questions of the seven-term lawmaker.
"Do we have a question from this side?" a female moderator inquired.
"F— you!" another man shouted in response.
While LaMalfa sought to defend his vote for Trump’s so-called "big, beautiful bill," claiming the reforms aimed at "bad apples," he was met with boos — after which he asserted that funding for Veterans Affairs would remain intact, inciting some attendees to label him a "liar."
A woman received applause from several attendees as she advocated for federal funding for PBS and NPR.
"This bill is not going to resolve all issues regarding Medicaid," LaMalfa remarked. "It's not the conclusion of the conversation." He then elaborated that it targets "illegal immigrants," resulting in additional groans and jeers.
"Liar!" one man shouted once more.
Another man labeled him an "—hole."
Many individuals in the audience demanded that LaMalfa advocate for the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. On Monday, a federal judge in New York rejected the Trump administration’s request to unseal grand jury testimony from the criminal proceedings against Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.
"Interestingly, the Epstein issue wasn't prominent during the Biden administration," LaMalfa quipped, inciting boos. He expressed hope that the grand jury reports would be released before Congress reconvenes from its break in early September. "It doesn't look good to have this information kept under wraps," he added, while acknowledging the necessity of redacting sensitive details.
"You all left. The Speaker of the House released you all so you wouldn't have to handle the files’ release," a woman told LaMalfa.
