Music agency says three employees killed in San Diego-area plane crash

Music agency Sound Talent Group said three of its employees, including co-founder Dave Shapiro, were killed in a private jet crash in the San Diego area.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Mr. Shapiro is listed as the owner of the plane and has a pilot's license.

According to his LinkedIn page, Mr. Shapiro also owned a flight school, Velocity Aviation, and a record label, Velocity Records.

The agency did not release the names of the other two dead employees.

“We are devastated by the loss of our co-founder, colleagues and friends. Our thoughts are with their families and everyone affected by this tragedy,” the agency said in a statement.

Sound Talent Group has represented artists such as Hanson, Sum 41 and Vanessa Carlton.

Earlier, San Diego authorities reported that two people were killed.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) now says the total number of casualties is unknown, but there may have been up to 10 people on board the plane.

A private plane crashed into a U.S. Navy-owned residential area in San Diego early Thursday morning, setting at least one home and multiple parked vehicles on fire.

Several people were injured trying to escape as flames engulfed a street after the crash around 4 a.m. in Murphy Canyon, the nation's largest Navy-owned residential community.

Others were treated for smoke inhalation, authorities said.
