The UN Security Council, at the request of Ukraine, which was supported by partners, will convene an emergency meeting on August 29 due to a new wave of Russian terror against Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga announced.
He noted that the meeting will be a response to another massive wave of Russian missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine, which have resulted in dozens of civilian casualties, including children. It will begin at 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time.
“We call on the members of the Security Council to use this meeting to express support for Ukraine in the face of Russian terror and to increase pressure on the Russian aggressor,” Sybiga wrote in X, adding that only pressure on Russia can force it to stop imitating diplomacy and move on to real efforts aimed at ending the war.
As a result of Russia's massive attack on Ukraine on the night of August 28, 23 people were killed in Kyiv, including four children. More than fifty Kyiv residents were injured.
The city itself suffered considerable destruction, as the occupiers struck, including at the densely populated center of the capital.
