Oz Pearlman, often recognized as Oz the Mentalist, has amazed some of the world’s wealthiest and most influential individuals with his capability to seemingly discern their innermost thoughts and produce information that even their dearest companions would lack.

However, Pearlman will readily acknowledge that he isn’t truly delving into anyone’s consciousness. He’s merely interpreting people’s behavior.

As the master of ceremonies for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Pearlman is possibly encountering his most formidable challenge yet: the current president of the United States, Donald Trump.

"This will be a pivotal moment in my career," Pearlman stated to ABC News' "This Week" co-host Jonathan Karl. "I view it as the ultimate test, and also the most authentic, real reaction, because when I execute my acts, the most obvious assumption is always, 'Well, they must be complicit, right?'"

"President Trump, as everyone knows, isn’t going to be complicit in anything," Pearlman commented.

Pearlman is also enthused by the composition of the audience: "I believe it presents an amazing opportunity, especially being in a space filled with discerning journalists. It’s what I do best: captivating people who enjoy getting to the heart of matters."

Pearlman engaged in a discussion with Karl just days before his assignment hosting the most significant press gathering in Washington, scheduled for Saturday, April 25. This D.C. custom spans over a century and offers journalists a chance to congregate with some of the country’s most influential figures.

"The essence of our presence there is to honor the First Amendment, the liberty of the press, and the fact that this nation enjoys a free press," Pearlman expressed to Karl. "Regardless of your views or opinions, I would always consider this nation the greatest worldwide."

Trump has previously attended the yearly event as a private individual but has yet to do so during his tenure as president. His most noteworthy appearance occurred in 2011, when he was the target of numerous jests delivered by then-President Barack Obama and the host for that year, comedian Seth Meyers.

Pearlman suspects he might have played a minor role in Trump’s choice to attend for the inaugural time as president.

"[People] informed me, 'It's without precedent. President Trump has never been present at one of these while in office, so he likely won't.' And I, during that initial call, stated, 'He most certainly will.' And they inquire, 'How do you ascertain that?' And I reply, 'You are aware of what I do professionally, correct?'"

Even though Pearlman has performed for previous presidents, employing his skills to impress figures like Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, this marks his initial endeavor to discern the thoughts of the current commander-in-chief.

And while a comedian typically hosts the event, Pearlman believes that his involvement this year aims to foster unity, de-escalate tensions, and abstain from highlighting his personal political affiliations.

"My function is not to present a scathing critique. I don't believe that’s why I was selected. I think I was brought in to bring people together, to unite them in a state of wonder and fascination," Pearlman explained. "I present things that are mind-blowing, that make you laugh, marvel, be amazed, and feel like a child again."
