Liverpool Victory Parade casualty toll rises to 109

The death toll after a car ploughed into crowds at Liverpool's victory parade has risen to more than 100, police have said.

Four people remained in hospital on Monday, a week after the incident on Water Street in the city centre just after 6pm.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said in an updated statement: “The latest figures put the number of casualties at 109.”

Last week, police said 79 people were injured.

Paul Doyle, 53, was charged in connection with the incident and appeared in court last week.

Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson said: “This is a complex and evolving investigation and we are still working to assess those who have reported injuries and our enquiries are ongoing.

“I would like to thank everyone who has already contacted us to give evidence or provide information or video footage. Your responses have been of great assistance in moving the investigation forward.

“We have received over 500 reports through the police's Major Incident Portal (MIPP) and a team of detectives are currently working on the information provided.

“I continue to urge anyone with information who has not yet contacted us to do so as soon as possible.”

The victims and their families are being supported by police officers, and forces in Greater Manchester, Cumbria, Lancashire, North Wales and Cheshire are assisting with the investigation.

Doyle, believed to be a former Royal Marine from Croxteth, Liverpool, is charged with two counts of causing actual bodily harm with intent, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of dangerous driving.

The crimes involve six victims, including two children aged 11 and 17.

After appearing at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday he was remanded in custody and is due to appear for a plea hearing on August 14.
