In pictures: Iran celebrates ancient fire festival ahead of Persian New Year

Iran celebrated its annual fire festival.

This ancient festival, known in Farsi as Chaharshanbe Suri, takes place on the last Tuesday before Nowruz, the Persian New Year (March 20).

People jump over and around the lights, shouting, “My yellow is yours, your red is mine,” calling for the replacement of illness with warmth and vitality.
