During his presidential address on Wednesday evening, President Donald Trump stated that his administration is "reviving our economy from the edge of disaster," asserting that he has successfully reduced prices across various sectors.
"I am rapidly lowering those elevated prices," Trump declared from the White House’s Diplomatic Room, noting, "Let's examine the evidence."
He made broad assertions regarding prices — ranging from fuel and food to airfare and hotel stays — contrasting the current costs with those during former President Joe Biden’s administration.
However, recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated that the president’s assertions were in some instances seemingly overstated, incorrect, or unverifiable.
The BLS is scheduled to release updated statistics on Thursday that will provide a revised overview of consumer prices — the first inflation report following the conclusion of the government shutdown.

The president mentioned that during Biden’s tenure, gasoline prices increased by 30 to 50%, hotel costs rose by 37%, and airfares surged by 31%.
"Now, under our guidance, they are all decreasing swiftly. Democrat officials also caused grocery prices to skyrocket, but we are addressing that, too," Trump asserted.
Trump asserted that egg prices have fallen by 82% since March and that "everything else is decreasing rapidly."
ABC News has put together fact checks regarding some of Trump’s statements.
Gas prices
It is accurate that gas prices reached a record high in June 2022 under Biden, with an average price of $5.016 per gallon, according to AAA.
As per AAA, the current average stands at $2.998. This reflects nearly a 50% reduction from the peak experienced during the Biden administration.
However, when comparing gas prices to the figures from just a year ago, from September 2025 to September 2024, the latest CPI report indicates that gas prices have only decreased by 0.5%.
Airfare
Airline ticket prices rose by 3.2% in September during the Trump administration compared to the previous year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Hotel rates
Hotel room prices have decreased by 0.8%, and car rental fees have dropped by 5.0% over the past year, based on BLS data.
Groceries
In September, the average cost of a dozen grade A eggs was $3.49, down from an all-time high of $6.23 in March — a 43% reduction, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
It is also crucial to highlight that egg prices were significantly influenced by the avian flu.
Overall, meat prices have risen by 8.
