For the cover of the January 27, 2025, issue, Till Lauer captured the tragic skyline in Los Angeles. The fires that have ravaged the city—burning through some forty thousand acres so far—are among the most dramatic examples of climate change. “Seeing the devastating images from L.A. reminded me of how quickly places of desire can turn into hellscapes if we don’t take care of our environment,” Lauer said.
