Ukrainian singer Olena Topolya (formerly known under the pseudonym Alyosha) said in a new interview for the YouTube project “In Bed” that she will never perform on the same stage with artists who continue to sing in Russian and communicate with Russian media.
The host reminded Olena that she had collaborated with Alexei Potapenko and Nastya Kamensky when they sang in the duet Potap and Nastya. In response, Topolya denied rumors that she had never been their backing vocalist on stage and explained that she had worked with them in the studio, creating vocal arrangements and lyrics.
“Everyone says that I was their backing vocalist. I was never their backing vocalist. I didn't stand on stage singing backing vocals for them or other artists. No. I worked in the studio with many artists, created vocal arrangements. A lot of my work went into the duet of Potap and Nastya,” the celebrity shared.
According to the singer, she asked Potap to give her the opportunity to develop, but her participation was limited to a minor role in the video “Don't Love Me Brains”. When Elena felt used, she registered the copyright to parts of the lyrics and melodies she had created. Potap's reaction was extremely negative, which became a sore point in their collaboration.
“I went crazy and went to register my pieces of lyrics and melodies with the copyright agency. Lyosha's reaction was very violent. I listened to a lot of different information, after which she said: “Oh, really? Well, okay, I'm taking away my rights and canceling everything.” And that was it. It was such a big point, after which I realized that it was time to broadcast a little that you are not some free thing that you can use, stroke and say “Olenka, well done”,” Topolya recalled.
