Medical device company opens new plant in Galway

A Galway-based biomedical company has announced the opening of its new facility at Ballybrit Business Park, which is at the heart of the city's medtech ecosystem.

Galway Biomedical Limited is a medical device development and contract manufacturing company. The new facility will be used to develop and manufacture components for use in vascular, dental, orthopaedic, urological and general surgical clinical practice.

Dara Callery, Minister of Rural and Community Development, officially opened the new facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“This announcement from Galway Biomedical will be a significant boost for Galway and the whole of Ireland,” Mr Callery said.

“This is particularly positive news for the West of Ireland, where we are now firmly established as a leader in the life sciences sector and have built a reputation for outstanding skill and innovation. However, we will never take this for granted and will continue to work hard to attract the best investment to all parts of the country.”

“We are now looking to accelerate our growth by significantly increasing our team, manufacturing capacity and capabilities,” he said. “We look forward to serving new customers and welcoming new team members to our world-class facility.”

Galway Biomedical recently completed a Series A round of investment, which included backers such as the Western Development Commission, Enterprise Ireland and private investors with expertise in the medical technology sector.
