I rarely take public transportation, but every time I come back with some interesting story or observation…
I got on the trolleybus, sat down by the window, and sat there thinking.
An old woman entered, and in my thoughts I didn't even notice her right away. And she stood next to me and grabbed the handrail on the back of the seat. I looked up – it was a grandmother, very old. I immediately offered her my seat and almost stood up. She deftly sat me back down and refused, saying:
— I've had enough at home, I've had enough.
And she began to tell:
— I worked as a postman all my life. I got used to walking. And when I retired, it was unbearable to sit at home. My daughter moved far away from me, she rarely comes. And I can't sit, I can't sit, I'm not used to it. So I go to the market, then somewhere else. It's like I don't have to, but what can I do?
A schoolboy approached the grandmother and also tried to put her in her place — my interlocutor just waved her away. And she said quietly:
— Here they are. Of course, they are being raised, taught, give way to the elders. And for me, it's a joy to stand in a trolleybus for a ride. I've had enough at home, I've had enough.
I felt so sorry for the lonely grandmother. I thought to myself, what a great job! How to maintain such energy in old age! And I also realized something important: it is very important for elderly people to be listened to.
At my stop, I said goodbye to her, and she, with a smile on her face, continued on her way.
I feel as if I have been charged with energy from my grandmother, and I set off on my journey with such vigor. I walk, thinking, it's good that I have somewhere to go, and most importantly, someone is waiting for me at home.
