In Istanbul, a football player resuscitated a seagull that was accidentally hit by a ball 2

Imagine the scene: an amateur football match in Istanbul, Turkey, and here a player literally brings a seagull back from the other world, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on it after accidentally hitting it with a ball, Ukr.Media reports.

On Sunday, the Istanbul Yurdum team played against Mevlanakapi Guzelhisar. In the 22nd minute, Yurdum goalkeeper Muhammet Uyanik, while clearing the ball from the penalty area, hit a seagull that was flying by. The bird fell to the grass. Uyanik himself admitted that at first he did not understand what exactly he had hit, and when he realized that it was a live bird, he was, to put it mildly, deeply shocked.

Then the team captain, Gani Katan, stepped onto the scene. He rushed to the injured woman and, without wasting time, began to give her a heart massage. The captain continued to press on her chest and, fortunately, gradually noticed how the seagull's legs twitched and her eyes opened. When the bird began to regain consciousness, the players gave it water to drink, and then carefully carried it off the field, handing it over to the doctors on duty at the game.

No first aid courses

Katan honestly admitted that he never had any special medical training, and his attempt to save the seagull was, so to speak, purely instinctive. Then a team of doctors took care of the bird. Later it turned out that the seagull had damaged its wing due to the collision and, accordingly, temporarily lost the ability to fly. Goalkeeper Uyanik noted that he did not yet know where exactly his accidental victim was being treated, but suggested that he would visit her if he found out the address.

The live commentator Onur Ozsoy said that the episode caused a huge stir. Viewers, it turned out, flooded the airwaves with questions about the seagull's well-being. Ozsoy called it a spectacle that you almost never see on a football field, adding that during these dramatic events, the broadcast was completely silent.

Later, the film crew learned that the seagull was already walking again, although it would certainly take a little longer to return to the sky.

As for the match itself, it unfortunately ended in a defeat for Istanbul Yurdum, which deprived the team of the championship title. But captain-savior Katan summed it up like this: “We lost the championship, but helping to save a life is a good deed. That was more important than the title.”
