The Ultimate Fighting Championship bout is scheduled to commence Sunday evening on the White House grounds, with the mixed martial arts series unfolding on the South Lawn beneath a full-scale UFC Octagon.
This occasion, named "UFC Freedom 250," is presented as a commemoration of America’s 250th milestone anniversary and aligns with President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.
The fight spectacle, championed by the president alongside UFC CEO and long-standing Trump associate Dana White, has generated considerable debate, intrigue, financial interest, and even a legal challenge. Nevertheless, the show is proceeding, as confirmed by the White House, even if adverse weather conditions might impact the proceedings.

The South Lawn now features a custom-built UFC Octagon, complemented by vast video screens, patriotic decor, and an imposing overhead structure referred to as "The Claw."
Projected Attendance Numbers
Access to the South Lawn gathering is strictly by invitation for more than 4,000 attendees. However, a significantly larger audience is anticipated to view the event from The Ellipse, near the Lincoln Memorial, and surrounding vicinities beyond the White House perimeter.
During a May event in the Oval Office, Trump highlighted the "major fight" as an unparalleled occasion. He remarked, "It’s never gonna happen again. Never happened before. And it’s all of the best fighters."

Approximately 125,000 individuals are expected at and around the White House complex for the contests, with an additional 75,000 people having requested tickets, according to legal filings by the Trump administration in support of a now-denied lawsuit aiming to halt the event. The planned activities will incur costs exceeding $60 million, as indicated in the documents.
The court documents reveal that the organization of this event has been a considerable undertaking involving over seven federal agencies, with hundreds of personnel working on-site throughout the 11 months since Trump announced the fight.
UFC Freedom 250 has been classified as a Special Event Assessment Review 1 occasion, necessitating security measures comparable to those for events like the Super Bowl or the Kentucky Derby. Attendees will require tickets for the viewing party on the Ellipse and will undergo screening akin to TSA procedures, officials stated.
The United States Secret Service is collaborating with the U.S. Park Police on security arrangements, as confirmed by Tara McLeese, special agent in charge of the Secret Service’s Washington Field Office.
Authorities have indicated that there are no known credible threats against the event.
Details on Expenses and Sponsors
The White House has stated that UFC is bearing the financial burden, despite court filings indicating that seven agencies have “allocated significant resources and manpower.”
The documents do not provide precise figures on the extent of government resources expended for the event but list the seven agencies as including the Executive Office of the President, the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Park Police, the Department of the Interior, the National Park Service, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Taxpayers will also be funding the security measures for this event.

Notably, various sponsor logos are displayed on the mesh sides and padded corners of the Octagon, as observed during the press preview of the venue on Thursday. Several of these companies have close affiliations with Trump, including Morgan & Morgan, Bud Light, Dodge Ram, Corona Extra, and Polymarket, a controversial prediction market.
The sponsorship from Polymarket arises at a time when concerns about potential insider trading among White House staff and allies are already present, as wagers on prediction markets have drawn scrutiny.
The White House issued a directive in March, via email, advising staff against placing prediction market bets related to the Iran war, as reported by ABC in April. This caution followed heightened apprehension regarding insider trading on prediction platforms like Polymarket, stemming from the discovery of suspicious bets that coincided closely with significant military developments concerning the Iran war and U.S. military operations in Venezuela.
The White House did not provide an immediate response when approached by ABC News regarding whether administration personnel have been cautioned against wagering on Polymarket or similar prediction markets in relation to the UFC fight.

Weather Considerations
The event faces considerable weather-related risks.
As of Friday, The Weather Channel’s forecast for Sunday in D.C. indicates a 62% probability of afternoon thunderstorms. The weekend’s heat could also present difficulties for the combatants, with temperatures expected to reach up to 90 degrees on Sunday.
Nonetheless, UFC President Dana White affirmed this week that Sunday’s event would proceed irrespective of the weather forecast.
“Standard contingency plans for inclement weather are in place to ensure the safety of the President and all attendees,” stated a White House official, adding: “Ticketed guests will receive all event communications via UFC’s Ticketmaster system.”
