The Justice Department requested last month the names and means of contacting each and every election employee in Fulton County, Georgia, who participated in the 2020 vote, according to court records revealed this week.

The Fulton County Board of Registrations and Elections is currently requesting a federal court within Atlanta to nullify the grand jury subpoena from federal law enforcement, which called for the names, physical addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses for any staff member who was involved in the 2020 election.

"Its intention is to single out, torment, and penalize the President's assumed political adversaries; it is excessively broad and disconnected from any valid requirement; it cannot generate any evidence that could bring about a criminal trial," legal representatives for the Fulton County figures expressed in the motion submitted Monday with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

The subpoena appears to heighten the Trump administration’s strain on Fulton County amid a continuous federal inquiry into alleged irregularities in the 2020 vote.

Spurred on partly by Trump associates who unsuccessfully tried to use discredited concepts to reverse the election outcome, federal agents in January impounded all the ballots and documents from the 2020 election.

For several months, Fulton County representatives have pressed a federal judge to mandate the return of the documents, although that judge is yet to issue a decree.

DOJ attorneys have asserted that the search was predicated on evidence of potential malfeasance and charged Fulton County representatives with postulating about "some form of expansive conspiracy."

Inside the motion submitted on Monday, legal representatives for Fulton County designated the recent subpoena as the "newest attempt to single out and torment the President's perceived political enemies." They contend that the legally defined time frame to start legal action for any claimed offense has lapsed and that the inquiry lacks a valid justification.

"Grand juries are not there to undertake aimless probes detached from a criminal case subject to prosecution," the motion expressed.

Robb Pitts, the chairperson of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, portrayed the subpoena as an "intolerable federal overreach conceived to cow and discourage engagement in elections" within a statement.

The DOJ did not promptly acknowledge ABC News' request for a statement.
