The famous Ukrainian karate fighter Stanislav Gorun, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, was returned his medal during a visit to Japan, which he sold in 2022 to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yahoo Japan reports.

After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of 2022, the Lviv native put his Olympic medal up for auction at the World Sports for Ukraine charity auction and sold it for $20,500 (604,500 hryvnias).
Even then, the Japanese man who bought the medal planned to return it to its rightful owner after the war. He intended to invite Stanislav to Japan on that occasion, but now he decided not to wait for peace.

“This medal now has much more value than just a sports award. It was Japan that extended a helping hand to me, and I am infinitely grateful for this return,” said Yaroslav Goruna , who became the first foreigner to train for the Japanese national karate team.
