It has become known who will carry the Ukrainian flag at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Milan

Ukraine, whose honor will be represented by 46 athletes at the quadrennial competitions, has named the athletes who will carry the national flag at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games (February 6-22 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo).

VIDEO OF THE DAY

On the day of the official opening of the 2026 Games on February 6 at the San Siro stadium in Milan, the Ukrainian flag will be carried by 21-year-old short track runner from their Kharkiv region, Elizaveta Sidorko, and 27-year-old skeleton athlete from Kyiv, Vladyslav Geraskevych, who spoke out against the war in our country right on the track at the Beijing Olympics.

“A lot of people congratulated me,” admitted Vladislav Geraskevych . “It's a great honor for me. Especially at this time, we understand the realities of a full-scale invasion. In fact, carrying the flag on such a large media platform at one of the largest media events in the world is a huge honor and a huge responsibility.”

We had to clarify the schedule, because we also have a pretty tight schedule at the Olympics. A lot of training, a lot of competitions – that's our main thing, for which we go there.”

“For me, it's even more special because I know that my dad, who is currently defending our country on the front, will be proud of me and will be able to say: 'My daughter is opening the Olympic Games,'” said Elizaveta Sidorko , who will become the youngest Ukrainian short track athlete at the Games.

Let us recall that four years ago in Beijing, the flag bearers of Ukraine were Oleksandr Abramenko (freestyle) and Oleksandra Nazarova (figure skating).

We would like to add that at the 2026 Olympic Games, which will be broadcast in our country by Suspilne, Ukraine will be represented in 11 sports.
