Joe Joyce blasts past Donnie Palmer in third heavyweight bout as a professional

Joe Joyce needed just 38 seconds to earn a first-round stoppage win over Donnie Palmer and claim his third win as a heavyweight in the paid ranks.

The 2016 Rio silver medallist landed a solid jab in the opening seconds before rocking his opponent with a right-hand to the body.

Bursting with confidence, the 6ft 6in Londoner unleashed a flurry of punches forcing Palmer onto the back foot.

Joyce finished the Boston-based boxer in style with a sharp two-punch combination, leaving Palmer in a heap in the centre of the ring. Palmer looked unsteady as he got to his feet, leaving referee Jeff Hinds no choice but to bring the contest to a halt.

In the co-main event, Matty Askin knocked Scot Stephen Simmonds out in the second round as he successfully defended his British cruiserweight title.

On the undercard, Wadi Camacho retained his Southern Area cruiserweight strap a ninth-round stoppage win against Danny Couzens.

Muay Thai world champion Ruqsana Begum got off to an unbeaten start on her debut as a boxer, drawing with Ivanka Ivanova in a four-round women’s super flyweight bout.
