In the semifinal match, the 31-year-old from Odessa defeated former world number one Iga Swiontek (3rd) from Poland in three sets in 2 hours and 16 minutes — 6:4, 2:6, 6:2, finally beating her famous opponent on clay on the third attempt. Overall, the head-to-head score was 4:3 in favor of the 24-year-old native of Warsaw.

Reaching the final of the tournament in the Italian capital, which Svitolina won in 2017 and 2018, brought Elina 549,335 euros in prize money and will allow the Ukrainian to rise in the updated world ranking by at least two positions. In the match for the trophy, Svitolina will play on Saturday, May 16 (no earlier than 6:00 p.m.), with American Coco Gauff (4th), who defeated Romanian Sorana Cirstea (27th) in the semifinals — 6:4, 6:3.

Elina has previously played against her American opponent five times and won three. In 2026, the Odessa player defeated Coco twice – in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Dubai.
