Sources with knowledge of the situation suggest that the U.S. might soon reveal a possible criminal accusation against Raul Castro, the prior leader of Cuba.
The inquiry, being conducted in Florida’s Southern District, has primarily focused on the 1996 downing of aircraft piloted by Brothers to the Rescue, a humanitarian organization.
The emergence of a prospective indictment coincides with President Donald Trump’s apparent shift of focus toward Cuba.

Earlier in the month, Trump stated, subsequent to the operation in Iran, "Cuba will be addressed next," adding that the U.S. will be "essentially taking control of Cuba in short order."
