The best road motorcycle racer in the Czech Republic, 48-year-old Kamil Holan, died during the prestigious North West 200 race in Northern Ireland, blesk.cz reports. Previously, the famous motorcycle racer crashed on the “death track” on the Isle of Man.

Tragedy struck during qualifying when Holan lost control of his BMW S 1000 RR motorcycle on wet roads at the infamous Station Corner and went off the track at high speed. Stewards immediately started waving red flags and rescuers rushed to help. But despite the best efforts of the doctors, the rider died.

Ironically, just minutes before the tragedy, Camille Hollande posted a chilling video of himself on his Instagram page from the track, in which he was cheerful and cheerful. “Of course, it’s a dangerous sport. It’s a natural balance. The more you feel the danger, the more you want to overcome it,” wrote the racer, who once raced the track at 309 km/h.

As it turned out, the race in Northern Ireland was to be Camille Holan's first since the death of his father, who passed away two weeks ago.

“My father's last wish was for Camille to take part in this race. So he said, 'Okay, I'll ride here in his honour.' And then this tragedy happened,” the devastated Belgian rider Laurent Hoffmann , who lost a close friend, told the BBC. “We were close because my wife is Czech. We all take this risk, knowing that this can happen. But it's a very bitter pill to swallow.”

It is noted that the Czech became the first victim of a race in Northern Ireland since 2016, when 20-year-old English racer Malachy Mitchell-Thomas died in an accident. In total, the North West 200 race, which has been held since 1929, has claimed the lives of 20 athletes.
