Artificial intelligence continues to amaze the world with its skills and “talents.” This time, AI Claude was able to play a melody on a real piano using human fingers.

Main theses:

  • In the video, the AI played a short melody on the piano, made an “OK” gesture, and even said hello.
  • In general, this idea is not new – it is about quickly reproducing a laboratory concept.

AI takes things to a new level

The new unusual development was first presented at the MIT HARD MODE 2026 hackathon.

The project was called Human Operator and was able to win the long-awaited victory.

This amazing device was developed by six MIT students. It is about the artificial intelligence Claude being able to control human fingers using electrical muscle stimulation.

According to the developers themselves, their invention works according to a simple but clear scheme: a camera on a person's head captures the surrounding environment, and the Claude model selects the desired movement.

A small microcontroller board converts the movement plan into electrical signals that are sent via relays to electrodes on the little finger, middle finger, index finger, and wrist. The muscles then contract in the desired order. Previously, electrical stimulation systems only performed pre-recorded sequences—for example, a few fixed gestures for a specific scenario. Instead, Human Operator matches the movement in real time to an arbitrary request and what the camera sees.
