The Ministry of Defense is introducing a universal ground station for controlling fiber-optic drones into the military for the first time.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine will have universal ground stations for fiber-optic drones
This was announced by Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov.
For the first time, we are introducing a universal ground station for fiber-optic drones into the military and are cleaning up the “zoo” of solutions.

According to the minister, today, fiber-optic drones are one of the key elements in defeating the enemy. They operate under the influence of electronic warfare and help destroy targets at distances where other solutions lose their effectiveness.
However, for every operator working with fiber-optic drones, there is a problem – the “zoo” of ground control stations for launching UAVs.

He added that dozens of different solutions created by different manufacturers are operating simultaneously at the front. That is why, when approaching a position, operators are forced to take 3-5 different models with them, which creates an unnecessary burden and reduces the time for completing combat missions.
UAV efficiency advisor Serhiy Sternenko has been working with manufacturers for several months to solve this critical problem for the front. This is one of his projects within the Ministry of Defense.
Fedorov clarified that today there are two types of ground stations for fiber-optic drones – analog and digital. In particular, the most common are analog, and it is on them that the main work of the units is currently based.
Today, unified technical requirements for analog ground stations have been formed, and we have a prototype that is as close as possible to serial production. This week, we are transferring the stations to units for combat testing.

The minister also emphasized that the next stage will be digital fiber-optic control systems and scaling a single unified solution across the entire front line.
Our goal is to form a single unified ground station that replaces several different solutions and removes unnecessary complexity in the work of units. On the instructions of the President, we are destroying the enemy in all domains: on the ground, in the air, and in the economy. To do this, we are systematically removing barriers and giving the military tools that work for results.
