Celtic and Scotland midfielder Maria McEnany has entered the Guinness Book of Records after scoring the fastest goal in professional women's football, the Glasgow club's official website has reported. The previous record was the fastest goal in Serbian Super League history.

Last December, in a match against Hibernian in Edinburgh, Makenney struck the opponent's goal with a shot from midfield just 4.10 seconds after the starting whistle and helped her team celebrate a 2-1 victory. And now the award has found its heroine.

“There was no training or anything like that, it was just a spontaneous decision,” admitted Maria McEnany . “There was a plan B, but I told Saoirse I would try, and luckily the ball went in. It's a great feeling, and I probably didn't think I would ever achieve this success. Honestly, I haven't fully realized it yet.”

It should be noted that the previous record belonged to Simon Magill from Northern Ireland, who scored for the national team in the 11th second of the Euro 2017 qualifying match against Georgia.

By the way, in November last year, McEnany played for the Scottish national team for the first time and saved her team from defeat in a match against Ukraine (1:1) with a well-aimed shot.

Previously, “FACTS” reported that Austrian Christoph Baumgartner scored the fastest goal in the history of international football.
