On Saturday, March 21, at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Torun, Poland, where Yaroslava Maguchykh won gold the day before and Yulia Levchenko won silver, the men's high jump competition took place, in which Ukraine was represented by the 2025 European champion Oleh Doroshchuk.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

The 24-year-old giant jumper from Kropyvnytskyi (Oleg's height is 205 cm) became the only one who cleared heights of 217, 222, 226 and 230 cm on his first attempt and fought for the “gold” with the sensational Mexican Eric Portillo, who cleared the bar at a height of 230 only on his third attempt. As a result, both athletes failed to jump 233 cm, which meant that Oleg Doroshchuk became the world indoor champion for the first time in his career (and the first time in the history of Ukraine). Portillo won the “silver”, and the “bronze” was shared by last year's champion Woo Sanhyeok from South Korea and Raymond Richards from Jamaica (both jumped 226 cm).

We should add that this was the third time that Oleg Doroshchuk competed at the “closed” world championships. At the two previous world championships (Glasgow-2024 and Nanjing-2025), the Ukrainian took fourth and fifth places.

Previously, “FACTS” reported that Oleg Doroshchuk became the vice-champion of the Diamond League stage in Rome, among the stars.
