On Sunday, January 25, the Ukrainian futsal team, which sensationally lost to Armenia in the opening game (1:2), played the second match of the Euro 2026 group stage at the Zalgiris Arena in Kaunas against the hosts of the Lithuanian team, which missed out on victory in the 1st round.

An unfortunate misfire in the first game forced Oleksandr Kosenko's team to take maximum points in the match to preserve their chances of exiting the group and avoiding failure at the European Championship. Especially since the “yellow-blue” knew how to beat the Lithuanians: in September 2025, our team defeated their opponent in friendly matches – 7:0 and 5:3.
They won this time too — thanks to the accurate shots of Chernyavsky and Perveev in the first half, as well as Korsun and Abakshin in the second.

The success allowed the “yellow-blue” to move up from fourth to second place in the quartet. Ukraine will not rise any higher, nor will it sink any lower.
In another match in the quartet that same day, Armenia defeated the Czech Republic 5:4 and secured an early exit from the group in first place.
Team standings: 1. Armenia — 6 points (goal difference — 7:5); 2. Ukraine — 3 (5:3) ; 3. Czech Republic — 1 (7:8); 4. Lithuania — 1 (4:7).
In the remaining match in the group, Ukraine, which won the bronze medal at the World Cup, will face the Czech Republic on January 28 (kick-off at 8:30 p.m.).

Recall that the two best teams from each of the four groups will advance to the quarterfinals of Euro 2026, which will take place from January 21 to February 7 in Lithuania (Kaunas), Latvia (Riga), and Slovenia (Ljubljana) with the participation of 16 teams.
