Orsoni, 71, led the separatist movement “Corsican Movement for Self-Determination”, which the French police considered the legal wing of the armed organization of the Corsican National Liberation Front – the “Traditional Wing”.
Authorities have linked the organization to a series of attacks on the island in the 1990s, some of which the group claimed responsibility for. Orsoni was also charged, convicted and later pardoned in the 1980 machine-gun attack on the Iranian embassy in Paris.
Alain Orsoni was the manager of Ajaccio Football Club in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
