Recent polls indicate that many Americans disagree with the Trump administration and its support for the ICE agent involved in the fatal shooting of Minneapolis resident Renee Good.
According to a Quinnipiac University poll, 53% of registered voters believe the shooting of Good was unjustified, 35% consider it justified, and 12% have no opinion. More than 90% of Democrats and around 60% of independents stated the shooting was not justified, while over three-quarters of Republicans disagreed.

Similarly, a CNN poll revealed that 56% of Americans believe the shooting was an improper use of force, while only 26% deemed it appropriate. An additional 18% indicated they had not received enough information to form an opinion. Approximately half (51%) of respondents suggested that the deadly shooting highlights larger issues with ICE’s operational methods.
The CNN poll further indicated that 51% of Americans feel ICE enforcement actions are making urban areas less secure, with 31% believing they enhance safety and 18% asserting that ICE has little impact on public safety.
There is a notable partisan divide, with 82% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents claiming that ICE enforcement is diminishing safety in cities, while 67% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents assert that it is increasing safety.

The CNN poll also showed that more Americans (47%) expressed concern regarding crackdowns on those protesting deportations compared to those worried about protests becoming unruly (37%).

Moreover, Americans exhibited minimal confidence in the federal government to conduct a just and comprehensive investigation into the shooting in Minneapolis. The CNN poll revealed that 62% indicated they had either some or no trust at all, including nearly half (47%) who expressed complete distrust. Only 17% stated they have a high level of trust in the government to investigate the shooting.
In total, the Quinnipiac poll indicated that 82% of U.S. voters have viewed the video of Good being fatally shot by the ICE agent.

The Quinnipiac poll found that 57% of voters disapprove of ICE’s enforcement of immigration laws, while 40% approve, showing little change from previous polling conducted by Quinnipiac in July. A majority of Democrats and independents disapprove of ICE’s enforcement practices, whereas most Republicans show approval.
