Lviv's Karpaty, who fired Vladyslav Lupašek after the fall part of the season, announced on their official website the appointment of 45-year-old Spaniard Francisco Fernandez as the team's new head coach.

The new “manager” of the “green and whites” began his coaching career at the Spanish clubs Polideportivo, Adra and Espanyol del Alcuyan. In 2012, the specialist joined the structure of Almeria, where he alternately led the youth team and Almeria B, and then was the acting head coach of the first team and a full-fledged head coach.
In the summer of 2019, Fernandez was appointed as the coach of Alcorcon, and he began the following season as the head coach of Tenerife. At the end of 2021, the Spaniard took over as the head coach of Alcorcon for the second time. Last season, Francisco Fernandez was the head coach of Murcia.

The specialist's staff at Karpaty, who are in 9th place in the UPL, will include 47-year-old Spaniard Vicente Fuster Ruiz, as well as Lupashko's former assistants – Serhiy Lavrynenko, Vadym Shutenko, Vadym Sapay, Bohdan Shust, Yuriy Shevchuk and Volodymyr Kravchuk.
By the way, Francisco Fernandez became the fourth foreign coach in the UPL (after Turk Arda Turan from Shakhtar, Dutchman Patrick van Leeuwen from Kryvbas and Croatian Mladen Bartulovic from Metalist 1925) and the ninth specialist from abroad at the head of Karpaty (previously, Serbian Ivan Golac, Croatian Igor Jovicevich, Bulgarian Mykola Kostov, Argentinean Dario Drudi, Portuguese José Morais, Spaniard Sergio Navarro, as well as Belarusians Oleg Kononov and Oleg Dulub worked with the “green-whites”.
Previously, “FACTS” reported that Oleksandr Shovkovskyi was dismissed from the position of head coach of Dynamo Kyiv.
