Stevenson vs Jack: Adonis Stevenson welcomes a rematch with Tony Bellew in Britain

Adonis Stevenson would travel to Britain for a rematch with Tony Bellew – and says he would win by knockout again.

The WBC light-heavyweight champion believes his former opponent should try and avenge his sixth-round stoppage loss, rather than attempt to lure Andre Ward out of retirement following back-to-back wins over David Haye.

Bellew has set the record straight by winning rematches against Isaac Chilemba and Nathan Cleverly having failed to win the first fight, and Stevenson remains the only other blemish on his record.

The Canada-based Haitian also defeated the only man to beat him – knocking out Darnell Boone in a return bout – and could offer another fight to Bellew following his title defence against Badou Jack on May 19, live on Sky Sports.

“Tony Bellew needs to get a rematch because when I lost, the first thing I knew I would do is get a rematch and knock him out – and did,” Stevenson exclusively told Sky Sports.

“You have to fight again the guy who knocked you out, except me! If I fight Bellew again, I am going to knock him out again. It would be exciting, though.”

Bellew has already called out Ward, who appeared in the same Hollywood film ‘Creed’, although the 34-year-old American has not fought since he retired following a rematch win over Sergey Kovalev last June.

But Stevenson believes he is a more viable option than former rival Ward, welcoming a catchweight bout with Bellew on a big bill in the UK.

“Ward might want to fight Bellew, but he certainly doesn’t want to fight me,” said Stevenson.

“When he had those titles, we tried to unify the division with him, and he just retired.

“I would like to fight in the UK. I don’t have a problem with coming there for this fight. I am going to knock him out in the UK. I have lots of UK fans, so I will come and do it again.

“Eddie Hearn has got our number, so he can negotiate with Al (Haymon).

“They are doing Joshua-Wilder, so it would be exciting if I was on their undercard, at catchweight, fighting Bellew.

“That can happen and I will knock him out again. I’ve got his number and I am going to do it again. Andre Ward won’t because he’s not a power-puncher.”

Watch Adonis Stevenson’s WBC title defence against Badou Jack in Toronto on Sunday May 19, from 2am, live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action.
