Pennsylvanian citizens cast their ballots in primary elections for governor, the House, and additional contests, in a crucial state that has shifted between backing Democrats and supporting Republicans in prior presidential election cycles.

Leading the ballot are primary races for governor. Current Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat and speculated future contender for president, aims to compete for a subsequent term; he was not challenged by primary rivals. Republican Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity, who likewise encountered no opposition in her own primary, intends to oust him in November.
Further down the ballot, voters throughout the state were selecting Democratic and Republican candidates for House competitions that could hold a vital position in determining which party controls the majority in the chamber following the November midterm elections.
Democrats are concentrating on four House districts currently held by Republicans in Pennsylvania, but they initially had to navigate competitive primaries in three of those areas. Republicans, conversely, will have to defend those seats in November but did not encounter contested primaries within those districts.
Independently, within Philadelphia, Democratic voters determined in the 3rd District primary who they favored to nominate as a replacement for retiring, longstanding Rep. Dwight Evans. No Republicans entered the race for that position.
